Course content:
Poetry: Poetry from a Literary period – e.g. T. S. Eliot, Keats
Contemporary Poetry (2000 - present): ’Poetry of the Decade’
Drama: One Shakespeare play (tragedy – e.g. Hamlet, Othello, or comedy – e.g. Twelfth Night, The Taming of the Shrew)
Other drama: e.g. Doctor Faustus, A Streetcar Named Desire
Prose: Two texts linked by a common theme (this year we chose Dystopian fiction, so we are currently studying War of the Worlds and Never Let Me Go. Other themes include: Women & Society, Crime & Detection, The Supernatural)
Coursework: Free choice of two texts from prose, poetry, or drama
Assessment:
Paper 1: Drama (2 hours, 15 minutes; 30% of final grade)
Paper 2: Prose (1 hour, 15 minutes; 20% of final grade)
Paper 3: Poetry (2 hours, 15 minutes; 30% of final grade)
NEA coursework unit: (20% of final grade)
