Message from the Chair of Governors

The attachments below provide archived information on the constitution, membership, and functions of our Governing Body. On 1st April 2020, we joined the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust; an exciting development that will benefit all our school community.

Our moral purpose, as governors, is to provide all students attending St Bede’s Catholic School and Sixth Form College with the very best education possible. We work closely with Mrs Hammill, her leadership team, and the staff to monitor the pupils' performance and to explore ways of improving outcomes.

​

It is vital that the Headteacher and the Trust Board has a shared vision for the school and across the Trust. In turn, this needs to be shared with our Local Governing Committee.

​

At St Bede’s, the Headteacher and the governors – and indeed all members of the school community - are moving in the same direction to ensure that all students achieve their academic potential thereby leaving us with a full range of skills to enhance their life chances.

​

Parents choosing to send their child to St Bede’s are opting specifically for education within the setting of a Catholic school. We are part of the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and we belong to the strong family of Catholic primary and secondary schools throughout the north-east; embedded further by the formation of Multi Academy Trusts. This is a very supportive network of schools with whom we share the same ethos.

 

As governors, we are very proud of our Catholic tradition and take seriously our responsibility to nurture the Faith in our young people and to support them on their spiritual journey through life.

Our interest is not restricted to examination results; we are equally charged with making sure that the students have access to a broad range of experiences and opportunities during their time at the school to help them develop into well-rounded, self-confident individuals equipped with skills to take them with confidence into the next exciting stage of their lives. We work to ensure that the school is a place where all our students and staff feel safe and happy.

 

The governors are keenly aware of the responsibility that we have for the young people in the community and the trust that parents place in us. In response, we do our very best to make sure that the school continues to be a safe and happy place to educate our children.

 

I hope that this section will help to inform you a little more about who we are and what we do. An exciting development for us and for the school is our inclusion in the Bishop Wilkinson Education Trust and I share a briefing paper below for information and will ensure that timely updates are posted within this section.
